USDA Releases Farm Bill Proposals

Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns Wednesday unveiled the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s 2007 farm bill proposals. The more than 65 proposals correspond to the 2002 farm bill titles with additional special focus areas, including specialty crops, beginning farmers and ranchers, and socially disadvantaged producers.

Details are available at www.usda.gov/farmbill.

Among the proposals are payment limitations and increased conservation funding.

Weed Resistance Topic at Cotton Meetings

As the county cotton production meetings are being held across the state, one big topic of discussion is weed resistance problems. Randall Weiseman recently talked about it with Stanley Culpepper, UGA Extension Weed Science Agronomist.

Applications Being Accepted For Specialty Crop Program

Major Changes for FL Citrus Nurseries

Citrus Nurseryman Nate Jamison An update about the rebuilding of the Florida Citrus Nursery industry and some of the new regulations making it very expensive and slow in coming. Citrus Nurseryman Nate Jamison was president of the Citrus Nurserymen’s Association during the times of hurricanes and canker eradication efforts in recent years. He spoke to citrus growers at a seminar in Ft. Pierce last week, giving several dozen growers in attendance a good update about the situation.
