Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson opened the program for a bio-fuels informational conference held as part of the Florida Farm Bureau (FFB) legislative day activities Tuesday in Tallahassee.
One of the south Florida farmers in attendance was Rick Roth, who operates Roth Farms in Belle Glade. Roth is also Vice President of Florida Farm Bureau Federation.
Rumors continue to fly about comments made or not made by university and state leaders about agriculture in Florida, and what the industry deserves or does not deserve in terms of research and other investments. In this report, comments from Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson about the need for agriculture as a whole to do more to educate urban counterparts about the facts of the industry’s importance to the state’s economy. 
Making a strong statement that the Florida agriculture industry is far from waning, well over a thousand producers and ag industry leaders joined Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson for fellowship and dinner while honoring this year’s four inductees into the industry’s most exclusive club of pioneers. This year’s honors went to (l to r) “Pete” Clemons, Okeechobee; Hugh English, LaBelle; Fritz Stein Jr, Belle Glade & Dr Alto Straughn, Waldo.


Each of this year’s winners were accompanied to the event by dozens of their own local supporters, and hundreds of producers and industry leaders made it a night as well.
