NRCS Extends CSP Deadline

Producers eligible for the latest Conservation Security Program sign up now have an extra two weeks to do so, according to USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service chief Arlen Lancaster. In Florida and Alabama, producers within the Upper and Lower Choctawhatchee River watershed are eligible to participate in the CSP signup.

AL Proud of Dee River Ranch

AL Ranch Receives Highest NRCS Award

Florida CSP Workshop Tuesday

Agriculture producers in parts of Bay, Jackson, Holmes, Walton and Washington counties could be eligible for payments from USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service under the Conservation Security Program. Landowners in that area learn can more about the program during a workshop at the Washington County Ag Center April 29 at 7 pm.

CSP Signup Information

A new signup for the Conservation Security Program begins on April 18 and USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service in Florida and Alabama are offering workshops about the program for landowners in the Choctawhatchee River watershed that includes parts of the panhandle and southern Alabama.

The workshops will be held April 22 at 9:00 am at the Coffee County Farm Center in New Brockton, AL; April 22 at 6:30 pm at the Wiregrass Electric Cooperative in Hartford, AL; April 24 at 9 am at the Ozark USDA Service Center in Ozark, AL; and April 29 at 7 pm at the Washington County Agricultural Center in Chipley, FL.

AL NRCS Prepares for CSP Signup

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service in Alabama is gearing up for the conservation security program sign up which starts April 18, according to state director Gary Kobylski.

NRCS will be conducting Conservation Security Program workshops for landowners in the Upper Choctawhatchee River Watershed, located in south Alabama, including Barbour, Henry, Dale, Coffee, Houston, and Geneva counties.

The workshops will be held:

April 22 9:00 a.m. Coffee County Farm Center
Highway 84, East, New Brockton, AL

April 22 6:30 p.m. Wiregrass Electric Cooperative
509 N. State Highway 167, Hartford, AL

April 24 9:00 a.m. Ozark USDA Service Center

How Conservation Programs Will Fare Under Extension

Agriculture department officials are still hopeful that a new farm bill can be finalized by the April 18 deadline, but they are looking ahead in the event of an extension of the current bill for another year. Natural Resources Conservation Service chief Arlen Lancaster says they are really not sure what will happen.

CSP Signup Announced

Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer has announced a sign-up for the Conservation Security Program will be available starting on April 18 for approximately 64,000 potentially eligible farms and ranches in 51 watersheds covering more than 23.7 million acres.

Conservation Will Suffer Under Permanent Law

The current extension of the 2002 Farm Bill expires March 15 but so far no major breakthroughs are being reported. USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Chief Arlen Lancaster says they continue to be hopeful because conservation programs will suffer a huge setback if we revert back to permanent law.
